Komiks Has Been Revived!

Hooray! Yes, what you've read is true! Komiks has been revived! Want some proof? Lookie!

Unfortunately for me those are not mine, though I feel lucky having a great privilege reading them. Upon having these books on my hand, I set aside my work and start reading them, nearly forgot that I have work to attend to. (Patay, neglect of duty ito. lol) Sorry, Boss, temptations are great and this hoarder can't miss the opportunity. Opportunity knocks only once, baka makalayas pa. ^_^

First stop, Animen! Book 1-2

Written by Ron Mendoza and Illustrated by Randy Valiente

It's two book na! I've read the first book which I bought last bookfair, so I am agitated upon what will happen to the story and how will the characters are presented. To give you an insight of the book. A Lightning . A Plane Crash. Six Survivors. Brand-New Superheroes. (from Animen's book) Right now, I met two Animen's character, so four more to go! ^_^

Second stop, Midnight! Book 1-3

Written by Ron Mendoza and Illustrated by Randy Valiente

These three were based on Camilla's novel My Midnight. I haven't yet read the novel so when reading these I was clueless as to how the story goes. And I was astonished that when I'm done reading them I wanted to buy the novel, my officemate thought of the same thing. Illustration and story were well presented, so good that I can imagine blood when reading each one of them.

Third stop (alam ko na ang iniisip n'yo, kung hanggang ilang stop ba ang entry na ito. lol), Pepe, The Lost Years Of Rizal. Book 1

Written by Ron Mendonza and Illustrated by Arnold Renia Cruz

Sino ba namang hindi na nakakakilala kay Rizal,
right? But Rizal here was presented in an entirely different manner. I'll describe him as a cute Rizal. haha! If you're curious why I said that Rizal is cute here, well, you have to grab a copy. *O, kaya, sumegway sa bookstore at makibasa. :P* This was good recommendation for a child to read, or you can read it for them. And oh, this is the first book. Yes, when I'm done reading this, I ask my friend/officemate; Melai, may Book 2 na? Which I think I asked her a lot of times na.

Fourth stop, The Reaper, Book 1
Written by Nald Tabuzo and Illustrated by Vovoi Lim

Ah, sing a different tune of question. Lying on the book on my table and getting Melai's attention, "Nakuha ba siya ng reaper?" HAHAHAHA! Yes, ako na ang impatient. :P Sorry, for spoiling the moment but the hype is still lingering in me. I even chose what I kind of reaper I'm going to be if given the chance to be one of them. And again, to know more about what the heck I am talking about visit your nearest bookstore, or makibasa ulit sa bookstore. haha!

I must really, really say this, all artworks are great! Each has its own style that suited the story even more.

As promised this is my last stop, my journey will resume tomorrow! :) This is just a snipet of what BLACKink's cooking this year! 13 books for 2013! :)

Reviving Komiks!

I grew up in a household where Komiks was loved. My father always told us stories of their youth wherein they rented Komiks for just a cent. Just for a cent! Papa introduced me to Gabi ng Lagim Komiks and Funny Komiks. Who would forget the legendary Combatron? (Sinong nakaka-relate? Taas ang kamay!) I think this is where I started to love reading. From then on, I became a fan. As I grew up, I switched from local Komiks to Marvel and sort. I love Superman and can't give up hoarding Superman Comics. I collect them while my father is busy trying to save his Komiks. Unfortunately, those Komiks lying around our home before was nowhere to be found these days, just like kids nowadays don't know what Komiks is.

Yearly, I look forward for Komikon. It's an event where artists gathered to sell their works, Komiks-enthusiasts meet and lots of fun are loaded in this. Just now, I read that it's scheduled on April 13, 2013 at Bayanihan Center, Pasig City. If you're looking for something different to do, try peeking at our artists works? It's worth your time, I swear!

And last Wednesday as we resume to work, my friend/writer-pal/office mate happily handed over a wonderful present to start my year. I was given the privilege to read BLACKink's to be released Komiks! I was so tempted to bring it home. *insert dancing hoarder here as she reads. hoho*

Lookie!
*All photos were taken from my ever reliable phone! LOL*

Done reading this last 01-02-13
If you're a Manga fan I recommend that you should try this. And yeah, I must mention that I love A Decade of Waiting most. ^_^ Stories and artworks are done by our fellow artists. Aren't they awesome?

Manga! Our own version!
Cool, right?
And yes, talking about reviving Komiks look at what BLACKink is cooking for us! I feel nostalgic upon reading them. Namiss ko ang Komiks namin na nawala sa paglipas ng panahon. *sniffs* Artworks were awesome and totally cool. Watch out for this title this January!

Nostalgia!

See what I mean?
You can imagine this hoarder grinning from ear to ear. I can't wait to have my own copy. To know more about BLACKink you can like their Facebook page and follow them on Twitter. :)

Book #3 My Imaginary Ex and #4 Kafka on the Shore

This is super late post. hehe. I finished this two books I think two months ago. So yeah, 4 down on my personal book review thing-y. :) And 26 to goooooooooo! LOL

My Imaginary Ex
by Mina V. Esguerra

Here's what happens when you play pretend.

When Zack asks Jasmine to pretend to be his ex-girlfriend, she gamely agrees, thinking it would be fun. A few years later, she still has to keep convincing people that they were never together! Then one day, she finds out he's getting married to someone she'd just met once! All of a sudden, things aren't so clear-cut anymore. Can Jasmine sort out her feelings (sometimes, she can't even tell real from pretend when it comes to her and Zack) before it's too late?

My friend recommended this chicklit and for that I want to hug her. Thank you Len! I think it's been ages since I last read this kind of book. I bravely admit that I love to read Tagalog pocketbooks, they're everywhere in our house. My table have piles of those kind of books. :) Reading light-themed books, for me, is a good escape for stress. hehe. Just like Mina V. Esguerra's My Imaginary Ex. I love Zack's character on how he contain his love for Jasmine all of those years. It has a nice flow on the story's build up, on how Zack and Jasmine pretends during their school days. Siyempre pa, I listed memorable lines.

From Zack referring to Jasmine's ex-boyfriend: "I hated that guy from the very start and I never lied to you about it. I let you stay with him because you kept choosing to go back. Even I was just there the whole time." *See? Ewan ko lang kung sinong babae ang hindi kikiligin sa line na ito?*

Kafka on the Shore
by Haruki Murakami

Kafka on the Shore, a tour de force of metaphysical reality, is powered by two remarkable characters: a teenage boy, Kafka Tamura who runs away from home either to escape a gruesome oedipal prophecy or to search for his long-missing mother and sister; and an aging simpleton called Nakata, who never recovered from wartime affliction and now is drawn toward Kafka for reasons that, like the most basic activities of daily life, he called fathom. Their odyssey, as mysterious to them as it is to us, is enriched throughout by vivid accomplices and mesmerizing events. Cats and people carry on conversations, a ghost like pimp employs a Hegel-quoting prostitute, a forest harbors soldiers apparently unaged since World War II, and rainstorms of fish (and worse) fall from sky. There is a brutal murder, with the identity of both victim and perpetrator a riddle--yet this, along with everything else, is eventually answered, just as the entwined destinies of Kafka and Nakata are gradually revealed, with one escaping his fate entirely and the other given a fresh start on his own.

I wouldn't hide the fact that I love magical realism. I also love Gabriel Garcia Marquez works. Last January I just read Murakami's Norwegian Wood and I also love that book. This book made me cry with so much emotions in me. (Nah, just being dramatic. hehe) But yeah, this book is touching. Murakami orchestrates the words and story line into a magical world you would love. I love Kafka's view and characters. There was no boring part for me in this book. Also, I now notice Murakami's attachment to cats. :) ♥ Now I have to purchase my own copy of this book. For those who love magical realism I definitely recommend Murakami's books.

Hence my list of favorite quotes:

"If you remember me then I don't care if everyone else forgets."

"Chance encounters are what keep us going."

"Everyone one of us is losing something precious to us. Lost opportunities, lost possibilities, feeling we can never get back again. That's part of what it means to be alive."

"Silence, I discover, is something you can actually hear."

"Being with her I feel pain, like a frozen knife stuck in my chest. An awful pain, but the funny thing is I'm thankful for it. It's like that frozen pain and my very existence are one. The pain is an anchor, mooring me here."

"In everybody's life there's a point of no return. And in a very few cases, a point where you can't go forward anymore. And when we reach that point, all we can do is quietly accept the fact. That's how we survive."

"Each person feels pain in his own way, each has his own scars."

Book #2 Stop Dating The Church

Okay, I think this blog entry is a very, very personal one for me. Before this book, I finished two more, but never got the chance to put it in here. Maybe I will in the next days or so. I had this book for a long time now and just finished reading it recently. And believe me, before I finish this book I literally broke down and cry. :( Not because I am sad but because I am grateful. God let me see so many things I took for granted before.  he open my eyes and heart for the things I do not notice before. For one, this is not about a relationship between two individuals but rather your relationship with Him. I must confess that I am church hopper, I constantly attended different churches for I have no church where I really grew up. You see I grew up in the household of Catholics, though our family frequently attended masses I never had this deep relationship with Him, with God. My faith was shallow. I accepted Christ only during my college days. Then, I attended Sunday services and merely only dated God. My relationship with Him stuck on with that level. *so sad but true* And this book made me realize that I have to stop the dating game and time to fall for Him. Hard, deep and again, really hard. I cannot explain in full details what this book had taught me because I think you have to experience it yourself. But after reading this I assure you that you will realize things that you are ignoring before, like dating your church. And what does "dating the church" means? Well, I guess you have to find that out also in here. :)

"And the peace of God which transcends all understanding will guard your hearts and your minds in Jesus Christ." ~Philippians 4:7

Random Things

This is such a lame post, I know. ^__^ Here are some of the few things that makes me happy, well aside from hoarding, of course. :) Sorry for crappy photos, this was all taken by my phone.

Taken last March when we visit my Lola's grave. We miss her dearly. :( I'm playing with our new dog, Wako. She's such a darling. And yes, Wako is a female dog. ^__^

With my cousin Hanna and Laiza. I love them, especially Hanna who excels in school and keep boasting about her grades. In the clan, she's our bunso, but she's so dalaga na. *ang bilis ng panahon.* huhu

Laiza's precious talent! haha. Hanging on to dear poles!

I always love bookshops. And I'm just so lucky that Booksale is just a few steps away from my office. I recently bought this, hopefully I can read this soon! :)

My friend Czeila sent me a pdf file of this novel, and luckily I spotted a hard copy on Booksale last Saturday! I told you I love bookshops. :)

Also got this book for no particular reason. I just love its cover. Ganda ng kulay. haha

This came from my office. :) I do have a lot of post-its and notepads at my drawer.

And recently, I started buying tapes with design in it. I don't know what it's called particularly.

Long time ago, (long time talaga) Mr. Photographer made this mini-version of notebook. I wanted to design it but it always slips in my mind. And last weekend I decided to pursue this project!

Ta-da! This finish product! After wrapping it with the tapes I bought recently!

Okay, nothing much to say here! Cartwheel na lang!

Book #1: My Name Is Memory

Sorry for the crappy photo. :)

Daniel has spent centuries falling in love with the same girl. Life after life, crossing continents and dynasties, he and Sophia (despite her changing name and form) have been drawn together-and he remembers it all. Daniel has "the memory", the ability to recall past lives and recognize souls of those he's previously known. It is a gift and a curse. For all the times that he and Sophia have been drawn together throughout history, they have also been torn painfully, fatally, apart. A love always too short.

Interwoven through Sophia and Daniel's unfolding present day relationship are glimpses of their expansive history together. From 552 Asia Minor to 1918 England and 1972 Virginia, the two souls share a long and sometimes torturous path of seeking each other time and time again. But just when young Sophia (now "Lucy" in the present) finally begins to awaken to the secret of their shared past, to understand the true reason for the strength of their attraction, the mysterious force that has always torn them apart reappears. Ultimately, they must come to understand what stands in the way of their love if they are ever to spend a lifetime together.

I think it was also this month that my friend, Maricar suggested a 30-book challenge, and by that 30-book challenge she means that we would try to read 30 books within a year. I declined to that challenge. Haha. It's just that if I accepted it, again, I will push myself to my limits and might end up getting sick again. :[ *I had horrible experience from challenges.* Instead I convinced myself to go back into reading again. I think I neglected that duty of mine for a very long time. So last April 17 I purchased this book. Yay! I remember posting on my FB page that I wanted to buy this book but hesitated at the last minute because I read some review that it was not that good. I was afraid that I might end up not liking it too. But despite of what I read I bought it nevertheless. Hahaha! Anyway it was discounted by 10 percent, so what the heck, why not buy it.

I set aside the review I've read about this and just enjoy the book, enjoy reading it. And I must say that I really enjoyed this book. :) Well, not totally because when I'm halfway through reading it, my head was shouting, "Why can't they end up seeing each other and end this story?" When I was in high school I had this fantasy that everyone has it's own character even before they were born. I believe in reincarnation by then and I believed that I was once a beautiful princess. LOL. And I think that's the reason why I enjoy this book. And it helps that I expected less on this book. :) I love the shifting of time and POV, it was smoothly written that it will not confused you.

Here are some of my favorite lines and conversation between the book's characters:

"We'll bathe together someday," I told her with a heave of contentment.
"Will we?"
"Yes. Someday you'll be free. Then I will find you and we'll be happy as this."
She had tears in her eyes and suds on her fingers. "How can that be true?"
"It might take a long time, longer than you imagine, but someday we will."
"Do you promise me?"
I looked at her and made another fateful choice. "I do."
~convo between Daniel and Sophia

"Love who you love while you have them. That's all you can do. Let them go when you must. If you know how to love, you'll never run out." ~Ben,  (I love his witty reincarnation in the entire book.)

"You know, Daniel."
"What?," He was already halfway across the lobby.
"In high school, I never understood. Why didn't you love her then."
He walked back to Marnie and looked straight in her eyes. "I did love her. I've loved from the first time I saw her."
~convo between Marnie (Lucy's friend) and Daniel
