The Abnormality in Thyself

I've been in erratic shifts since January and I must say it's messing my body clock completely! Totally messed up! Okay, let me explain it to you. We have four shifts in the our department and each shift goes on for two weeks. Like I'll be in 8 am-5pm shift for two weeks then next shift will be 3pm-11pm shift. See, what I mean? Not complaining though because it is work. And I love what I do, but the monster in me unleashes when I'm doing the morning shift. You see I'm not really a morning person. So for me, morning shift is a curse. Hahaha! Listed below is advantage and disadvantages I've observed during morning shift.

Advantage:

  • I get to eat breakfast! I rarely eat breakfast, usually I eat breakfast and lunch at the same time (brunch) because I wake up around 11 am when I'm not going to work.
  • I can finish a lot of books. It's because morning shift have a lot of idle time.
  • I always have time to see my cousins (my two cousins stays with me) awake! When I'm doing the night shift I go home and they're still sleeping and I leave the house upon they're arrival from school. No time for a real chat, really. Sometimes we only see each other on weekends.
  • I also have time to eat with them. Often times, it's dinner! And once a week breakfast though.
  • I have time to have dinner with friends and visit malls!

Disadvantage:
  • The morning rush is horrible!!! (notice the three exclamation marks I use) People are always in a hurry in the morning. And I have to wake up at 5 in the morning just to avoid the morning rush.
  • Spend a looooot of time in the office. I arrives at the office around 7:30 and have to leave 7 pm just to avoid the traffic. But it's still traffic, so when I get home I'm dead tired and drained.
  • It's freezing! Because most departments in our company works in the morning all air conditioning are working at this time. It means not only the general air conditioning but the air conditioning in all the dubbing rooms. We have to resort in bring blankets just to easy the cold.
  • I exceeds in my daily allowance. It's because I'm always hungry! Haha
  • I have to wear presentable clothes. Haha. Though we are work for multi-media company there's still dress code. So I can't wear distressed jeans at the morning shift and revealing clothes. (as if I have something to flaunt. LOL) And oh, we have to wear ID at all times. So I'm kagalang-galang (respectable) during morning shift.
  • I don't have enough time to dress up. (Vanity problems. HAHA)
  • I can't write! Because I have to sleep early so I can wake up early. (This is the saddest of all the disadvantages I can think of.)
See, I listed so many disadvantages which shows I favor night shift!

SG's Second Lesson To NG

And as the lesson continues... SG's second lesson to NG...

...TO COOK!

When left alone in our house in Manila, I usually dine out or ordered cook for myself. O, ha, see how I eat healthy food. LOL. But with high-cost living here in Singapore I can't always dine out, luckily, I'm with my ate and cousin whom patiently teach me how to cook. Plus they even encourage me to try baking! Yay! And I realized that baking is addictive. You'll always want to try something new especially when you failed in your first try. ^_^

Old school style of writing. Yes, I am back to pen and paper kid! :)
Trivia: I just finished a manuscript just by manually writing every scene. LOL
Warning: This is a continuous blabbering. Read at your own risk. ^_^ Also, this has nothing to do with Jack Bauer's 24. :)

If you only have 24 hours to live, what will you do?

Ah, this question still lingers in my mind up to this moment. I tagged along with my fellow VG-mate to her other group and they were doing an in-depth discussion about an ongoing series titled "THE END" which is now on its third week. Anyhoo, we've been asked to answer this question: If you only have 24 hours to live in this world, what will you do?

I've been itching to answer a famous line, "I would like to pray for world peace." (Miss Universe na Miss Universe lang ang peg ko) LOL. But Rhona did that for me, she answered that she would be praying for world peace. Which lead to another question, "Ano? You'll be praying for 24 hours?" And then after a moment of chaos, we answered seriously na. My turn came. In an instant I answered that I will write my entire life in that one day. (O, ha! Hemmingway/Frost lang ang drama!)

I admit that I am not a very good writer, I suck at grammar, big time. What keeps me going is that I love to write. I write anything that pops into my mind almost anywhere. I write when I am sad, I write when I am happy, I write when I am depressed. I write. Just give me a pen and a paper and I'll survive the entire day. (Coffee is a plus.) Up to this time, whenever someone ask me what my job is, I am too shy to admit that I am a writer. Dahil minsan alam ko na ang kasunod ng tanong, "Saan ka nagsusulat? Malaki ba ang kita diyan?" Or sometimes worst reaction is, they will look at you as if saying, "Ah, another weirdo." LOL

I quit working because I believe that this is my calling. God let me out of my comfort zone to share my thoughts to other people. If I made other people happy through my works, I think it's just a bonus. I only wanted to share a part of me with them hoping that one way or another they will learn something from what I wrote. (or sometimes I want them to be entertained.) It's been a privilege that He gave me this gift, the power of pen. Thus, it's been said that pen is mightier than a sword.

If in 24 hours I'll be able to write my own story, my life, into one book I think it will be hilarious. LOL. And heck, who will buy this hoarder's book? LOL. But I always believe that life is a continuous learning and what teaches us best is our experience. Clearly, what I've experienced was just a tiny fraction of what other people have gone through. But I am hoping that if ever when that time comes and I'll be able to write my own experience, I just hope that it will be a blessing for someone. Sana kahit paano may matutunan sila sa lahat ng kabaliwan at kabalbalan ko. :))

Also, I think that everyone of us have the ability to write. Minsan nga lang hindi natin mahagilap ang tamang salita para sa ating nararamdaman. And sometimes when they aked me about writer's tip and how should they start writing, my only monotonous answer is: Simply just write. Write from the bottom of your heart. All of us are writers and God is our precious editor and at the same time publisher. You just have to grab that pen He has given you and start writing. :)

"Each one, as a good manner of God's different gifts, must use for the good of others the special gift he has received from God."

Five Years

I think this has been the most difficult blogpost I will ever write. I've been staring at the blinking cursor for a couple of minutes now and yet words don't come easy. This is my fourth day of being unemployed. I am not good at saying goodbye, perhaps none of us do. And yes, letting go is one of the hardest job ever. So why am I writing this? Not to say goodbye but to express my gratitude to all of those people whom I shared my five years with.

It was around September 2007 when I was hired as a subtitler in a multi-media company. I was 21 years old then. I was so happy  entering the corporate world. For five years, my life revolved on a routine. I met a lot of people, learned so many lessons and learned so much about work ethics. For five years I also developed the most annoying habit I have now. (When I watch movies, in my head I repeat their lines. gah!) I grew older, my perspective in life became twisted as well as my mind. LOL And realized I am not happy anymore. I was exhausted and unhappiness overwhelmed my heart. I complained too much and the work ethics I know started to diminish right in front of my very own eyes. I have to say goodbye. I have to pursue my heart's desire.

It's a very tough decision. For five years my work has been my comfort zone. My work provided me with awesome friends that I'll forever be thankful for. But sometimes God called us to step out of our comfort zone. So, I stepped out. Having faith that despite all my doubts and fear God will provide for me.

I don't have a clear plan of what I will do for the next days, months or so. Am I gonna look for work? I don't know. But as of now I am enjoying my life as a fulltime writer. Honing the talent that God has given me.

Certainly, I know time will come that I will miss my flexible shift, I'll miss my work and my workstation. I will miss my friends. I will certainly miss those endless laughter and chikahan moments with them. And yes, this is heart-gripping. :( I am terribly missing my friends. As my FB status stated, I will never say goodbye because I'll definitely see you again, guys.

The Journey. *not in chronological order*

My first Christmas party with them!

SDI's party. :)

The gang I love. Last days with them at Laiya, Batangas.

At the office.

With Rio, a very dear officemate and a friend.

In those five years I these two taught me so many things; in life and in work.

At Laiya, Batangas. August 2012

Since we became friends, we're inseparable. LOL

Benefits of Having a TV-Free Home

In this day and age, it is very rare that you can see a home without a television set (TV). It's like television is a basic need in our daily lives. We turn on our TV for news, for entertainment and sometimes it just become a habit to turn it on.

It was nearly a year ago that our TV broke down. I kept on thinking that it was not because of the lightning that it broke down but because it was so overuse and abuse by her owner. >_< You see, we turn it on the moment we open our eyes and it will be open for the rest of the day. So unfortunately it's been a year now that we don't have a TV at home. At first it was so hard for us, it keep us entertained you know. But then again, it was very timely that it broke down in times when my cousin was reviewing for his board exam. So by then it was very helpful that we have a TV-free apartment. And luckily, he passed his exam! * I always believed that it was because he had no distraction and all. He loves watching TV.* He is now a certified Engineer! (Whopeee! Proud cousin here!)

So we plan to have our revive our TV from the shop where we brought it to be fixed after he passed his exams. But until now it remain there. haha. So yeah, up to this moment we have a TV-less environment. And I can say that having a TV-less environment do have it's advantages.

Now I have all the time in the world to read all the books I hoard. I finally influenced two of my cousins who are living with me to also read. Well, I coaxed them to read. I love books and I wanted to share this passion with them. At first it took them two-three days to finish a book a.k.a. pocketbook. lol. *They didn't really have the patience when it comes to books. They prefer texting and some sort of things than reading.* But now they can read two books in one day. And finally the greatest achievement of all, they are now reading English books. (Again I proud cousin here! haha)

Secondly, we now have time to chat. I mean, we really sit down and take an hour or so just exchanging stories and sort. We are now more open with each other. And now I can keep track their performance in school. *grins*

Thirdly, we invented a lot of games. What can we say we're bored. haha. We can't keep up if everyday we're in a mall.

Lastly, I can now concentrate on my writing and working on papers! :)

So did we miss our TV? Absolutely, yes but we survived a year without it and it will not hurt surviving without in the next month or so. :)

Repost! :)

A good friend of mine wrote this touching piece and the urge to repost it here was so strong that I think if she wouldn't let me repost this, I'll bug her forever. Haha. Luckily, in this time I am fortunate enough to walk with this journey in faith and life with her. I am blessed having her. Thank you, Czei! Okay, enough of my sentiments. Here it is:

Love and Rainy Days

Rainy days! Ah! Rainy days always prompt me to write. And I guess this time is not an exemption.
The sound of the rain always illicit a warm response from within me, mostly because I tend to conjure up images of people huddled together tightly under an umbrella or under a blanket. I myself will cuddle in a comfortable chair with a hot cup of coffee, enjoying the laziness rainy days bring out in people, my heart and mind wandering about, creating romantic scenes associated with rain and the sound of it as it hits the pavement.

All of my friends know that I’m a hopeless romantic at heart. I hoard romantic books, loves songs and love poems, quotations, movies, series… you name it. I chase romance like a butterfly to a flower, always on the lookout for something sweet to sustain me for the rest of the day. One of my closest friends used to say that I’m in love with the idea of love, and looking back, I can honestly (though not proudly) say that all those times I felt my heart and pulse race because of another person’s presence, I was falling in love with love. Well, of course, I didn’t know it at that time. I insisted with all the confidence of a wanna-be superstar that I know what it is to love someone. That I was ready to plunge into a relationship based solely with the way a guy smiles, or the way his eyes shine when he’s talking of basketball. It’s actually a little funny and ironic because all my prayers now are pleas for God to teach me how to love.

You see, the keyword there is ‘hopeless.’ I mistook romance for love. I attributed the goo-eyed, butterflies-in-the-stomach, head-pounding-cause-of-excessive-supply-of-oxygen feeling to something as grand as Love. After a series of disappointments, bitterness, and disillusionment brought about by my selfish demand for perfection, I actually came to a point where I told myself that it’s better to grow old alone. Forget the romantic growing-old-together with someone - I simply cannot live with a person who doesn’t know the difference between yours and your’s. I viewed Love as if it was my English term paper: for all the wrong prepositions, paragraphs, and misplaced sentences, points are deducted. I demanded perfection without really seeing whether I can honestly say I’ve reached that standard I so stubbornly demanded on other people.

But seeing within myself made things a lot worse. Now, I can see my flaws, my insecurities, my imperfections. It horrified and scared me, and it intensified my conviction not to be with anyone. I thought, “Now, there’s no one who will love someone as wretched as me.” It created a bitter hollow inside me seeing I’m not worthy enough to be loved by a wonderful person. I was so sure that no one in his right mind would want to be with a girl who could get by without a shower during rainy days. In my naivety, I thought my standards are THE standards. And since I can’t reach the standards I’ve built for myself, I was so sure no one will.

It is during these moments of “kaemohan” that God spoke to me and said, “My precious daughter, you are fearfully and wonderfully made. Do not be afraid to go out there. You can love because I loved you first.” (Psalms 139: 14; 1 John 4:19)

Wow! Those are some powerful sentences there. When I realized how much God loves me - that He sent Jesus to die for my sins so I can experience true joy and freedom - I realized how trite and cynic my view of Love is. I remembered crying - because I feel honored, and because I realized that I was always chasing love the wrong way for all the wrong reasons.

I was always on the lookout for what I can gain by the relationship - happiness for me, acceptance for me, higher self-esteem for me. And sadly, all the romantic relationships I’ve encountered that ended up in separation and broken hearts also have the self syndrome in them. “He doesn’t make me feel the same way anymore.” “He doesn’t care about me.” “He just doesn’t understand everything I’m saying.” etc etc. Of course, it isn’t wrong to expect such things from people whom you’ve made a commitment to, but this shouldn’t be the root or the foundation of the relationship, as these things cover the limited understanding of just one person.

A person cannot give you the same level of affection everytime. A person isn’t wired to give you the same emotional high everytime you hold hands, nor can he/she feed those butterflies in your stomach. Feelings diminish over time. If you base your definition of love with the way the other person makes you feel, then expect love to fly out of the window the moment a storm arrives. This kind of love is unhealthy. It doesn’t help you grow as a person. Much more, it hurts the other person too, damaging their hearts so long as the relationship drags.

The truth is, we cannot experience the “ideal love” without a solid foundation. In relation, we can only give out love if we receive it. And we can only find it in the source of Love itself - God.
Have you ever wondered why it has always become a necessity that when we love people, we expect to be loved back? Many songs and poems are written because of what we call the ‘unrequited love’ - the longing that is not met or fulfilled by the object of affection. And many hearts acquired scars because of it. The reason simply is because when we love, we give something of ourselves away; and when we give something away, it isn’t ours anymore. Since we can only give what we have, when we give love away, there’ll be no love left in us. That’s why when the affection isn’t returned, we are left with gaps and holes inside us that we desperately try to fill. This is the reason why there are many people who vow never to love again, because they cannot now give something that they do not have.

But what happens when we focus our attention to God and not to wordly romance? When we make God the center of our life? When we experience God - who is the real meaning of Love - and let Him fill our hearts and souls, love will overflow within and beyond us. And the overflow of this love, this joy and contentment and satisfaction, is what we give away to other people. And because we have an unlimited source, we wouldn’t be afraid that our love won’t be returned, because the love we give is only a tiny fraction, the falling crumbs of a full vessel. Isn’t that a very comforting thought? We can love and love as many people as we can, as many times as we want, without the fear of being empty-handed, because we know at the end of it all, the love of God will still continue to overflow. This is the kind of love that makes new life. The kind of love that transforms not only us, but also those people around us.

Imagine a life where there are no sad love songs. No pillows wet at night. No hoarding of ice creams and chocolates whenever the memory of a lost love strikes. No telephone calls to late-night radio programs. No broken hearts. Can you picture it for a moment? It may seem impossible, but with God’s grace, it can happen.

Is there anything more romantic than this?

As I type the last sentence, I get a little giddy inside. And very, very excited. I, for one, am in the middle of experiencing God’s love. I can’t explain it well, but it’s not as temporary as the kilig I get when I see my crush in a gorgeous haircut. The kilig that comes from knowing how much God loves me changes not only the way I feel, but the way I live my life. Compared to when I was chasing romance, there is so much more meaning in chasing God, because He continuous to reveal Himself to me. Everyday, there is something new to ponder about Him. And everyday, I am left completely breathless and in awe of how much I am loved by the Creator of the heavens and the earth. And yes, this is the kind of love that enables me to live a new life. The kind of love that rejects all insecurities, and doubts, and fear, and empowers me to live free and wanted.
It is still raining here. And my mind still wanders on the possibility of two people finally meeting each other during this cold weather. And maybe, I’d get a little jealous, as what usually happens when I wonder when will my time for romance come. But I will smile, because I know that it is also one of God’s miracles. I will smile because I can live everyday knowing that I can finally love.

Hope you've been blessed! :) ~Misadventurer/paperhoarder

Born Twice

*Deep sigh, close eyes and sigh again.* Okay, here it goes.

At first I wanted to create a separate blog for this entry but in the end decided to bravely pour it all out here. After all, rediscovering Christ is also an adventure. So why not put it here, right? I want to tell you in advance that what you will read in the next sentences or so is a continuous thoughts. :)

I made a commitment, a commitment that I will never regret ever. I committed myself to Christ.

When you are tormented and in pain I think no book or friend can console you. Yes, for a while you will feel better. You can cry your heart out to them, share your stories. But when times that you are all alone and darkness and silence was creeping into your thoughts once again you will breakdown. I write love stories and created so many broken hearts, broken spirits but never once that it cross my mind that it will happen to me. Not really the broken heart per se more like broken me. :( For the first time in my life I desperately call Him, prayed hard and almost endlessly. And if God was like my mother He would probably nag me, for what I was saying were almost the same thing. But, no, God is greater and so good than what I thought Him to be. Unknowingly He was comforting me and pointing to the right direction as to what should I do and where I should go. Little by little, step by step, His Words showed me that who am I to complain all the pain I was feeling, all the trials that I went through. I am reminded that the pain I am suffering, the pain I'm feeling was nothing compared to what He's been through. He sacrificed Himself in order to save me from my sins. He suffered an excruciating pain for me. So I stopped wailing and deep within me thank Him for giving me this load of trials. I know that He is breaking me apart to mold me into a better person. A new me, with a new faith stronger than what I believe I have before. For days I am just like a mere student of His hampering His good words. For quite sometime, I was scared. What if after this trial I would go back to the old me? I don't want that. And I am really praying hard not to go back to old me. :( Before forgiving for me is a very hard task, I can tell one person I forgive him/her but deep within me that forgiveness is shallow. But God showed me in His own ways that if I can love why can't I forgive? Even I in so many instances made mistake and dishonoring God, in so many times, in so many ways, then why God is always giving me so many chances that even I couldn't count with my fingers and toes. Every time, everywhere, God is good. He is above all power and above all great minds. He is forgiving and always will accept you with open arms and loving heart no matter how unworthy you are.

Picking up the pieces of your own self is not easy at all. No, it is intense labor, a hard work. God created our beautiful world out of love within seven days so why not can He changed me with so little amount of time. Yes, up to this point I am still experiencing pain, I would not deny that, when night falls I still cry, but unlike those times now I know that I have God beside me, comforting me. Now that I am assured that this 'too shall pass.'

"Therefore as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, walk in Him having firmly rooted and now being built  up in Him and established your faith, just as you were instructed and overflowing with gratitude." Col. 2: 6-7

Book #2 Stop Dating The Church

Okay, I think this blog entry is a very, very personal one for me. Before this book, I finished two more, but never got the chance to put it in here. Maybe I will in the next days or so. I had this book for a long time now and just finished reading it recently. And believe me, before I finish this book I literally broke down and cry. :( Not because I am sad but because I am grateful. God let me see so many things I took for granted before.  he open my eyes and heart for the things I do not notice before. For one, this is not about a relationship between two individuals but rather your relationship with Him. I must confess that I am church hopper, I constantly attended different churches for I have no church where I really grew up. You see I grew up in the household of Catholics, though our family frequently attended masses I never had this deep relationship with Him, with God. My faith was shallow. I accepted Christ only during my college days. Then, I attended Sunday services and merely only dated God. My relationship with Him stuck on with that level. *so sad but true* And this book made me realize that I have to stop the dating game and time to fall for Him. Hard, deep and again, really hard. I cannot explain in full details what this book had taught me because I think you have to experience it yourself. But after reading this I assure you that you will realize things that you are ignoring before, like dating your church. And what does "dating the church" means? Well, I guess you have to find that out also in here. :)

Happiness is between too little and too much. Having just enough wealth to meet your needs, enough poverty to learn how to work hard, enough blessings to know that God loves you and enough problems so you don't forget Him, enough happiness to keep you sweet, enough trials to keep you strong, enough hope to keep you happy and enough sorrow to keep you human. What you are is God's gift to you, but what you become is your gift to God. ~Hindi ko alam kung san ko 'to nakopya. :(

What Money Can Buy (unfortunately I also didn't know where I copied this)

A bed but not sleep
Books but not knowledge
Food but not appetite
Finery but not beauty
A house but not a home
Medicine but not health
Luxuries but not comfort
Pleasures but not happiness
Religion but not salvation

Say not that this is yours and that is mine
Just say, this came to you and to me;
So we may not regret the fading sunshine,
Of all the glorious things which ceased to be.

I Dreamed A Dream!

I always wanted to have my own studio/office wherein I can lock myself the entire day and do the things I love most: writing and crafting. ^_^ If given a chance to build my own studio/office I probably get most of my ideas in the photos below. I'm flushed with jealousy upon seeing this. HAHAHA.

I want to have crafting tools! hehe. The only crafting tools I have are scissors and cutter. haha.

Girl na girl and so organize!

Extreme level of being organize!

Ah! Maybe I should start saving money for all of these! ^__^

"Halt!"

Countless times I wished there were more than 24 hours in a day. You see, as one of my friends regard me, I am restless and I am absolutely guilty. I really can't tell you why I end up working in an office with strict regard of time (not really pala, I have a flexible sched) and force me to get up at times I don't feel like going to work. After an eight-hour job or sometimes ten-hour shift I will go home and do the things I love most: writing, reading and crafting. Being a writer is not an easy job, it requires discipline which sometimes I think I have none. But lately I am tied to my promise that I should spend more time writing and by writing I mean, staring at MS word too long is not included. I spend two-three hours struggling to write one thousand words or if my muse is so cooperative I exceeded words and time. And if creative juices flows continuously I diverted into crafts. I always think that there's a lot to do with all my junk and stuff. LOL. Before I hit my bed I'll grab a book to read. So you see this leaves me three-five hours of sleep. :[ So many things I wanted to do with a little time I had. And lately, sleep became inductile for me. *insert haggard look here* LOL

Then it hit me as I read this: And he said to them, “Come away by yourselves to a desolate place and rest a while.” For many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat. ~Mark 6:31. I needed to rest, I needed to reflect and I needed to breathe with smile and not wanting demanding so much time. God wants me to enjoy each day He's giving me. That above all things I am doing I should be thankful that each day I get to see the beauty He created, I am alive and breathing. That once He reminded me that I should welcome the world "Halt" in my routine. Last year I had a horrible experience towards lack of sleep. I experienced an excruciating pain in my head that led me to undergo CT-Scan. Thankfully the result were negative of all the possible ailment I had. I just needed to rest and rest I did. I remember the fear crept within me as I recall those times. Little by little I have to get acquainted to Mr. Halt, slow things down and be thankful for that 24 hours in a day. Old habits die hard as the saying goes but I you can always welcome the word change. :)
